On March 27, 2014, Dennis M. Gonzales and a team of associates obtained a defense verdict following a jury trial. The case was brought by a plaintiff who alleged that he was subjected to excessive force while he was incarcerated at Men’s Central Jail.
On May 13, 2009, an altercation between an inmate and a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy required a use of force, including a TASER. The inmate subsequently received medical treatment for injuries including four fractured vertebrae.
At trial, the defense relied upon the testimony of the involved LASD personnel to convince the jury that the force used by the deputies was necessary to protect the five involved deputies and to subdue the inmate. The jury returned a defense verdict. Eric White v. County of Los Angeles, USDC Case No. 13-3401 JFW (SSx).
